Bobby Bowden – retires at the young age of 80

A tribute to the College Football Hall Of Fame Coach at Florida State. As you may know, dad-gum it, Bobby Bowden has decided to retire at the young age of 80. (I hope I look that good at 80). Here’s some quotes from the man who took a football program that was about to be canceled and turned it into the best in the land. From various sources including the P.N.J.:
Moral victories are like a six-foot man drowning in three feet of water. He’s still dead.
When I was at Alabama all I heard was “beat Auburn.” When I was at West Virginia, all I heard was “beat Pittsburgh.” When I got to Florida State, their bumper stickers read “beat Anybody.”
I thought Joe was going to tackle the dad-gum horse. I was gonna tell him, ‘go high on him, don’t go low.’
He makes a 3 yard run look like an All-American highlight.
A better ending could not have been scripted. Of course, if we had won, that would have been better.
He doesn’t know the meaning of the word fear. In fact, he doesn’t know the meaning of a lot of words.
I’ve always said if short hair and perfect manners won football games, Army and Navy would play for the national championship every year.
If somebody mistreats you, treat ‘em good. That kills ‘em.
I guess I’ll retire someday, if I live that long.
Happiness is not money, and it’s not fame, and it’s not power. Happiness is a good wife, a good family and good health.
and this one
That sounds like Florida State doesn’t it?
Well coach, the sounds out of Tallahassee back in 1976 were nothing like the sounds that you brought to the city. God Bless you and thanks for everything that you did for us.
